First Lady, Mrs. Kartumu Yarta Boakai, has departed the country for a high-level visit to the United States, aimed at forging w and mobilizing support to advance the nation’s health sector and improve the lives of vulnerable citizens.
The First Lady’s mission, according to her office, is focused on advocacy and collaboration, with a strong emphasis on strengthening primary healthcare and addressing challenges facing women and children.
While in the U.S., Mrs. Boakai will participate in major international engagements, including the Global Health Conference and the annual high-level meeting of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), both taking place on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
At the Global Health Conference—hosted by Woods System of Care in partnership with the Mollie Hare Center for Excellence and The Network Towards Unity for Health (TUFH)—the First Lady is expected to deliver a keynote address. Her remarks will highlight practical solutions for strengthening Liberia’s primary healthcare system, with particular attention to maternal and child health services.
In addition, Mrs. Boakai will join her counterparts at OAFLAD’s high-level event, themed “Building Resilience for Women and Girls in the Face of Climate Change and Conflict.” The gathering will officially launch OAFLAD’s 2025–2027 campaign and feature discussions on pressing issues, including gender equality, girls’ education, sexual and reproductive health, and women’s empowerment amid conflict and climate change.
Her itinerary also includes a working lunch on sexual and reproductive health, where the First Lady will collaborate with fellow African First Ladies to push for a unified approach to addressing critical continental challenges.
The Office of the First Lady described the visit as a strategic step in a long-term, solution-driven agenda, aimed at building collaborative alliances to strengthen Liberia’s health systems and empower women and children across the country.
