Former Lta Commissioner Abdullai Kamara Re-arrested Over Economic Sabotage And Criminal Conspiracy

MONROVIA – Former Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Commissioner Abdullai Kamara was re-arrested and brought before Criminal Court ‘C’ on Monday, September 8, 2025, to face multiple corruption charges. Kamara, who also serves as CEO of Tamma Corporation, was apprehended by officers of the Liberia National Police following a court-issued arrest warrant signed by Judge Ousman F. Feika.

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) confirmed Kamara’s arrest and detention, noting that the charges against him are based on an extensive investigation into alleged financial improprieties during his tenure at the LTA. The charges include economic sabotage, theft of property, misapplication of entrusted property, criminal facilitation, criminal solicitation, and criminal conspiracy. Kamara is accused of collaborating with his co-defendant, Fabian Laveland, CEO of Tamma Corporation, to illegally disburse public funds and falsify official records, resulting in substantial financial losses to the Liberian state.

In a statement, Cllr. Bobby Livingstone, LACC Lead Prosecutor, said, “This arrest sends a strong message: no individual or institution is above the law. The Commission is committed to ensuring that public officials are held accountable for any actions that compromise Liberia’s governance, the integrity of public institutions, and the use of state resources. Mr. Kamara’s alleged violations of the law and misuse of public funds represent a serious betrayal of public trust, and we will pursue this case diligently to ensure justice is served.”

According to the LACC, Kamara was remanded to the First Judicial Circuit, Criminal Court ‘C’ in Montserrado County, where the case is scheduled to proceed to trial this term. The Commission emphasized that the charges are the result of a careful and comprehensive investigation that documented clear evidence of misconduct and financial irregularities.

Authorities allege that Kamara violated the terms of his previous bail and failed to meet legal obligations stemming from his initial indictment. The LACC further stated that these actions, along with those of other former LTA officials under investigation, significantly undermined the operations of Liberia’s telecommunications sector and eroded public confidence in the management of state resources.

Kamara’s re-arrest is seen as a continuation of the government’s effort to crack down on high-level corruption, reinforcing the principle that all public officials are accountable under Liberian law.
