Pleebo, Liberia; July 15, 2025 – Former Speaker of the 54th Liberian Legislature Dr. Bohfal Chambers has cautioned officials of government to be more professional and dutiful.

Dr. Chambers, also a former Representative of Maryland County District #2, gave the caution via mobile phone during a talk show on Saturday, July 12, 2025, following his return to the country.

According to him, public service is a call to duty, and once a person occupies any such position, be it local or National, he/she should adhere to the service of government and put their pride under their feet.

He said, regardless of one’s interest or feeling, once it’s about the interest and duty of the country, a level of professionalism should be practiced and upheld to a higher level.

Dr. Chambers emphasized that a call to duty outweighs personal interest, stating, “If you are doing what is required of you professionally and someone tries to accuse you, it’s no longer your place to do such an evaluation or investigation because you have been accused.”

He said it’s a standard and professional way of life that should be practiced by people who occupy government positions and are paid with taxpayers’ money.

The former Speaker emphasized that professionalism is vital for restoring public trust in government institutions. “It is imperative that officials understand the weight of their responsibilities,” he stated, adding, “Their actions and decisions directly impact the lives of the citizens they serve.”

Dr. Chambers urged officials to adhere to ethical standards, foster transparency, and hold themselves accountable. He said by doing so, they can ensure that the needs of the people are met effectively and that public resources are utilized judiciously.

He further pointed out that professionalism in government is not just about individual conduct but also about fostering a culture of respect and dedication within public institutions. He encouraged leaders to lead by example, demonstrating integrity and commitment to service.

Dr. Chambers, who served three six-year terms as Representative of Pleebo Sodoken District, Maryland County, further stressed that as Liberia continues to navigate various challenges, a timely reminder for officials to prioritize their duties and serve the public with integrity and professionalism is important, adding that only through a collective effort to uphold these values can the nation aspire to achieve meaningful progress and development.
