Fouta Corporation (FCC), Liberia’s largest indigenous import and export trading company, has officially handed over three modern housing units to retired employees who dedicated decades of service to the institution.
The beneficiaries Bondca M. Bar, a former sales executive; Charles Bonnie (posthumously); and Alfred Sekou Cook each received a fully constructed housing unit in appreciation for their loyalty and service for more than 20 years, reaching the labor law’s minimum retirement age of 65 and 70.
The housing units, located in Upper Caldwell Township’s New Redemption Community, feature two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, a living room, front and back porches, solar panels, and Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) connections, all within a securely fenced compound.
The ceremony, attended by employees, executives, the beneficiaries, and their family members, took place in Caldwell. Hamidou Gnan, founder and managing director of Fouta Corporation, and Mohammed Sow, president and executive director, presided over the event.
Speaking at the dedication, Mr. Sow emphasized that the initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to honoring its employees. “It’s our way of showing gratitude to those who have served this institution faithfully. When they leave, they should do so with smiles, not tears,” he stated.
According to Sow, this is not the first time Fouta Corporation has provided housing for its retirees. The company has allocated land specifically for constructing additional housing units as part of its corporate social responsibility.
“It is disheartening to see employees retire with nothing to show for their years of service except small pensions from the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation. We aim to change that narrative,” he added.
Bondca M. Bar, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude to the company. “We never expected such a gesture. This gift will live with us for the rest of our lives. It’s a milestone that calls for celebration,” he said.
Bar encouraged current employees to remain patient, disciplined, and hardworking, emphasizing that these values had played a significant role in their recognition. “It’s always good to be honest and self-controlled in any job, not just at Fouta Corporation,” he advised.
Established in 1995, Fouta Corporation is a leading trading company in Liberia, engaged in the importation and distribution of rice, steel, building materials, and cement under the “Goltas” brand. Recently, the company launched a subsidiary, Fouta Cement Corporation, to operate a 300,000-ton-per-year cement grinding plant in Monrovia.
Through initiatives like this, Fouta Corporation continues to demonstrate its commitment to employee welfare and community development, setting a benchmark for corporate social responsibility in Liberia.
