On Friday, April 2, 2025, President Joseph N. Boakai along with other government officials inspected a US$26 million project “Chicken poultry” in Careyburg, rural Montserrado County. The project, when completed, will cut imports of eggs to Liberia, while enabling Liberia to be a regional exporter.
Speaking with reporters after the tour, Liberia’s Presidential Press Secretary Att. Kula Fofana described the US$26 million Chicken poultry as Liberia Poultry Project; stating that the key component of the government’s ARREST Agenda stressed on agriculture.
According to her, the aims of the project is to ensure that Liberia stops imputing eggs or chicken from other countries. “This project is still in its beginner stage. This is a project of the Liberian government that was signed with some partners. This project will also create jobs opportunity in the sector,” she said.
Atty. Fofana narrated that on a daily basis, over 2,000 eggs will be produced; adding that in another way, it will also be called egg factory. Also, she said that the project is one of the ways the President intents to empower young people and the community at large.
“This project is 100 percent Liberian owned, but it is a loan that the Liberian government took to be able to do such a project,” Kula added.
When asked about the loan, Kula was not definite, but said, “The Liberian government will engage different partners to get loans, but these loans came from multiple sources.”
Liberia’s Presidential Press Secretary disclosed that the government is in partnership with the “Agriculture Turnkey Project” to implement the project; stating that employees and contractors are Liberians. Speaking about the duration of the project, Madam Fofana declined, but stated that it is an ongoing project and different stages.
