MONROVIA, Liberia, July 16, 2026 – The Government of Liberia has released the official calendar of events for the country’s 179th Independence Anniversary, detailing a week-long program focused on technology, innovation, infrastructure development, youth engagement, and national unity.
The calendar, prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and released by the Ministry of Information, is subject to final approval by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Speaking during MICAT’s recent press briefing in Monrovia, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel O. Sandoe said the celebrations will run from July 21 to July 28, 2026.
According to him, the program will officially begin on Tuesday, July 21, with the Liberia Technology Summit 2026 at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Golden Image Awards at 4:00 p.m.
He said activities will continue on Wednesday, July 22, with the investiture ceremony at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
Sandoe said President Boakai is expected to dedicate several development projects across Grand Bassa County on Thursday, July 23, including the county administrative building, clinics, schools and other public facilities.
He added that on Friday, July 24, President Boakai will dedicate the Superintendent’s Compound in Buchanan. A Thanksgiving Intercessory Prayer Service will also be held at 1:00 p.m. at Buchanan Central Church.
According to Sandoe, Saturday, July 25, will feature the Independence Fish Market, organized by the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority at the Buchanan Fairground. At noon, the President’s Youth Town Hall Meeting, organized by the President’s Youth Advisory Council, will take place in Buchanan, followed by additional youth-focused activities later in the day.
On Sunday, July 26, a Thanksgiving Intercessory Service is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church on Church Street in Buchanan. The Liberia Experience Carnival Star event, organized by the Liberia National Tourism Authority, will also be held in the city at 3:00 p.m.
Sandoe said activities on Monday, July 27, will begin with the hoisting of the National Flag at 6:00 p.m. at the Doris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchanan.
He said President Boakai, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia, is expected to arrive at the Doris Williams Sports Stadium at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, to review troops.
The National Orator is expected to address the gathering at 8:00 a.m., followed by a military and paramilitary parade at 9:00 a.m.
Sandoe said the official ceremony marking Liberia’s 179th Independence Anniversary will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Unification Pavilion in Buchanan.
The calendar also includes the dedication of the Bangasaray Road on July 28. In addition, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection will host the Children’s Socialization Day with the President and the First Lady at 12:00 noon.
Sandoe stressed that the program remains provisional. “The schedule I just read is the draft provided to us by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and, of course, it is subject to change,” he said.
