Grass Seeks Community Backing And Justice Ministry Support For Prison Skills Program

BUCHANAN, GRAND BASSA COUNTY – The Grassroots Agency for Social Services (GRASS) is deepening its partnership with communities and institutions in Grand Bassa County as part of efforts to broaden its customer base and sustain vocational training programs for inmates at the Buchanan Prison Compound.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, July 4, 2025, GRASS National Program Coordinator Barley Togba said the organization is actively engaging local groups to promote the purchase of its debut product, liquid soap, produced by inmates enrolled in the skill-training initiative. Togba stressed that community support is vital for the program’s success and reiterated GRASS’ long-term commitment to prisoner rehabilitation through practical skills development.

Togba further disclosed plans to hold discussions with officials at the Ministry of Justice aimed at securing direct financial support for the program. According to him, institutional buy-in is necessary to ensure the continuity and expansion of the rehabilitation effort.

He also called for increased national budgetary support to bolster the rule of law and enhance justice sector programs, arguing that consistent investment in inmate rehabilitation will contribute to long-term social reintegration and national development.
