Heartfelt Hands Liberia Initiative Reaches Out To Pregnant Women In Bong With Independence Day Relief

GBARNGA, BONG COUNTY –As Liberia gears up for its 178th Independence Day celebration, a newly formed nonprofit, Heartfelt Hands Liberia Initiative, has delivered much-needed support to pregnant women at three major health facilities in Bong County.

The group’s surprise donation, valued at over 80,000 Liberian dollars, benefited women at the Phebe and Palala Maternal Waiting Homes as well as the C.B. Dunbar Maternity Hospital in Gbarnga. These facilities regularly care for women who face difficulty affording the basic materials required for childbirth.

Leading the outreach were Solomon Tubah, Caroline O. Nyan, and other team members, accompanied by student nurses from the Bong County Technical College Nursing Program. The donation included antiseptic pads, baby clothes, towels, soap, Clorox, tissue, tap soap, and other sanitary items.

“Many women are required to bring these items before they can give birth but not everyone has the means,” said Ms. Nyan. “That’s why we brought this donation, to ease that stress and bring a little joy.”

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Tubah and Ms. Nyan stressed that the donation reflects their wider mission to support maternal health and ease the strain on under-resourced healthcare providers.

“This is just the start,” Tubah emphasized. “Our group was established earlier this year, and we’re committed to doing more. Our CEO, Mr. Armstrong Tubah, based in the United States, is deeply committed to supporting Liberian mothers and improving healthcare access.”

Although the donation was delivered to women who were present at the time, the organizers assured that others who had temporarily left the wards, would receive their portion upon return.

The initiative marks Heartfelt Hands Liberia’s second major outreach, with leaders confirming that more engagements are being planned for communities across Bong County.

Beneficiaries Respond with Gratitude

Women who received the items expressed deep appreciation for what they described as a timely intervention.

Esther Bondo, an expectant mother staying at Phebe Maternal Waiting Home, shared:

“When you don’t have anything and someone brings baby clothes, soap, and tissue—it really touches you. We’re so thankful to Mr. Armstrong Tubah and his team. This support means a lot to us.”

Another beneficiary, Kebbeh, echoed similar sentiments:

“We weren’t expecting it, but God sent them. Everything they brought, we’ll use it. It came at the right time.”

Several mothers described the donation as a rare gesture of care during a time when many feel overlooked amid rising living costs and health access challenges.

“Sometimes we feel forgotten,” Esther added. “But today, we felt recognized. We felt loved.”

Vision for the Future

Based in Gbarnga, Heartfelt Hands Liberia Initiative was established in 2025 with backing from both local supporters and international partners, including its U.S.-based founder and CEO, Armstrong Tubah.

The organization has pledged to continue expanding its outreach to serve not only pregnant women but other vulnerable groups across the county.

“We’re just getting started,” said Caroline. “There’s more we plan to do, and more people we want to reach.”

As Liberia prepares for Independence Day, the team’s thoughtful gesture stands as a reminder that even small acts of compassion can restore dignity, bring relief, and renew hope for those most in need.
