House Declares National Yellow Machines Day-Lawmakers Praise Boakai Infrastructure Drive

MONROVIA – The arrival of Liberia’s newly acquired road construction equipment has sparked national excitement and political symbolism, culminating in the House of Representatives declaring February 26 as “National Yellow Machines Day.” Lawmakers praised President Joseph Boakai’s infrastructure push after inspecting the first shipment of machines at the Freeport of Monrovia. While many Liberians welcome the equipment as a long-awaited step toward improved roads and economic access, analysts say the real test will be management, transparency, and sustained deployment. As THE ANALYST reports, the declaration highlights the political significance of infrastructure in Liberia, where road connectivity remains one of the country’s biggest barriers to agriculture, trade, healthcare access, and national development.

Following the arrival of the first 137 pieces out of 285 earth-moving equipment—popularly called “yellow machines”—at the Freeport of Monrovia on Sunday, February 22, 2026, members of the House of Representatives have declared February 26 as “National Yellow Machines Day,” describing the acquisition as a milestone in Liberia’s push for improved road infrastructure.

The declaration came after lawmakers adjourned session to inspect the equipment at the port and later proceeded to the Executive Mansion to formally express appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for what they described as a major development achievement.

Lawmakers Tour Machines at Port

Excitement surrounding the arrival of the machines has spread across parts of the country, with citizens and lawmakers alike wearing yellow in solidarity and celebration.

At Capitol Hill on Thursday, February 26, several lawmakers were seen dressed in yellow before adjourning their session to inspect the equipment at the port.

Lawmakers toured the facility where the machines were being staged for transport to Camp Ware Barracks in Careysburg, where they will be assembled and prepared for phased deployment nationwide.

The consignment includes graders, bulldozers, compactors, wheel loaders, trucks, and excavators intended to support road rehabilitation, rural access expansion, and improved connectivity across Liberia.

House Praises President Boakai

Speaking at the Executive Mansion, House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon thanked President Boakai for fulfilling what lawmakers called a key campaign promise.

“Mr. President, our presence here today is to acknowledge your hard work. We are here to say thank you, because these machines will help open corridors to market roads and make our villages and towns more accessible,” Speaker Koon said.

He added that lawmakers inspected the machines to dispel rumors that they were used equipment.

“We see that these machines are all new machines. As we await the second batch, we will continue to celebrate,” he said.

Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah also praised the President, stating that the majority of lawmakers support the infrastructure initiative.

President Boakai Responds

Responding to the lawmakers, President Boakai emphasized cooperation between the Legislature and Executive Branch in achieving development goals.

“None of this would have happened if we were not working together. Your support and approval make these things possible,” President Boakai said.

He stressed that Liberia cannot continue another century without roads, water, and electricity.

“We know what you go through to get elected and how your people depend on you. These machines will help open our country and bring benefits to our people,” he added.

President Boakai also disclosed that bridges and other infrastructure projects will follow, noting that some communities remain inaccessible due to rivers and terrain.

“The use of these machines will be carefully managed to ensure they serve the respective counties and open up our country,” he said.

House Declares National Day

After the inspection, Deputy Speaker Fallah formally declared February 26, 2026, as “National Yellow Machines Day” on behalf of the House of Representatives.

Lawmakers said the declaration recognizes the importance of the equipment in Liberia’s development and road connectivity efforts.

The equipment is expected to be deployed under the Yellow Machines Board of Authority to support infrastructure projects across the country.

It goes without saying that Liberia’s lack of reliable roads has long hindered agriculture, trade, education, healthcare access, and national security. Improved road infrastructure is widely seen as essential for economic growth and poverty reduction.

While the arrival of the machines has generated excitement, experts say proper maintenance, transparent management, and fair deployment will determine whether the equipment delivers lasting benefits.

The declaration of National Yellow Machines Day reflects both political symbolism and public hope that Liberia’s long struggle with poor roads may finally begin to change.
