The Deputy Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives, C. Cormick’s Chea, has died. The sad event occurred on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the St. Joseph Catholic hospital in Congo Town, the House of Representatives has announced. He was 52 years old.
Chea’s death marked the second tragedy to hit the House’s Deputy Chief Clerk position in recent times. His predecessor, Mr. Sarfurl Geeplay, died in October, 2023. Cormick’s death made him the shortest-lived official to hold that office, since 1986.
A statement released by the press and public affairs department of the House read, “the 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀, with deep sorrow and profound regret, announces the untimely passing of its Deputy Chief Clerk, Mr. C. Comicks Chea Sr., affectionately known as “DCC.”
“Mr. Chea passed away in the early hours of Sunday, at 2:00 AM, June 1, 2025, at the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, following a brief illness. He was actively engaged in official duties as recently as Thursday, May 30, when he attended a legislative session and subsequently returned to his office, where he unfortunately collapsed.
Immediate efforts were made to rush him to the hospital, where he remained under care until his peaceful transition.
“Mr. Chea was a consummate professional and patriotic servant,” the statement said. “He served the Legislature with distinction. He was a Senior Stenographer during the 54th Legislature and was later elected Deputy Chief Clerk in the current 55th Legislature, a position he held with honor and integrity.”
“Mr. Chea’s contributions to the legislative process, his commitment to duty, and his humility made him a respected and cherished figure among lawmakers and staff alike. His legacy of service and dedication to the country will be remembered and celebrated.”
“The leadership and members of the Honorable House of Representatives extend heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the late Mr. Chea, and pray for God’s comfort and peace during this period of mourning,” the statement said.
