Spoon Talk host and proprietor of Spoon Network, Stanton Witherspoon, has alleged that Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman personally contacted Highway Patrol Chief Wadell W. Kwarbo, an officer whom Witherspoon claimed was involved in escorting an alleged drug shipment from the Bomi Highway to the Thinker Village area.
Witherspoon made the allegation during the Sunday, August 2, 2026, edition of Spoon Talk. He did not present publicly verifiable evidence to support the claim during the broadcast.
Recently, President Boakai dismissed and suspended several top security and airport officials in connection with the US$317.68 million worth of cocaine arrested last month in Margibi County. In June this year, Liberian authorities seized nearly 4 metric tons of cocaine worth an estimated $317 million in Duazon, marking the largest drug bust in the country’s history. President Joseph Boakai subsequently dismissed a dozen government and law enforcement officials following investigations linking senior personnel to the trafficking network.
Liberian authorities at the same time, burned 4.2 metric tons of cocaine worth an estimated $336 million on July 30, 2026, marking the country’s largest-ever drug destruction. This followed a record-breaking seizure in Duazon outside Monrovia that unfortunately also involved local police corruption.
A separate 237kg shipment worth over $19 million seized at Roberts International Airport in June was also destroyed. Charges were brought against high-ranking officers, including the chief of highway patrol and head of major crimes, for allegedly using official vehicles to escort the smuggled cocaine. The massive haul originated from a transnational network, leading to the arrest of a Serbian citizen and a dual Colombian-Spanish national.
As investigation continues over the drugs, many opposition figures continue to accuse Police IG Coleman as being part of the cartel though no charges have been brought against the Police Inspector General.
With this latest allegation from a media personnel and well-respected media outlet, Liberians are eagerly waiting to see or heard the outcome of this latest allegation in the coming days regarding the allegation against the police IG.
