MONROVIA – The Ministry of Commerce & Industry will this Friday, June 27, 2025, join the global community in celebrating International MSMEs Day at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town commencing at 9:30 AM. The occasion, to be held in collaboration with EcoBank Liberia is aimed at fostering the growth, competitiveness, and sustainability of Liberian-owned Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs).  Other related partners include the Liberia Business Association (LIBA), Liberia Chamber of Commerce (LCC) and Jeety Trading Corporation (JTC).

In a press release issued on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and signed by Communications Director Jacob N.B. Parley, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive economic growth and national development by improving access to markets. The 2025 International MSMEs Day will be held under the theme: “Building Resilient MSMEs: Advancing Job Creation, Innovation, and Local Content.”

The program’s attending objectives include raising awareness and acknowledging the essential role of MSMEs in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).

The forum is also aimed at showcasing and supporting market-ready MSMEs, with emphasis on women and youth-led businesses in strategic value chains; highlight the efforts of government and partners in strengthening access to markets, promoting innovation, and building entrepreneurial capacity through policy and infrastructure, etc.

The occasion will feature  other items; including an opening ceremony to be addressed by the Minister of Commerce & Industry, Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, technical panel session, interactive roundtable on SBA’s role in implementing the 25% Procurement Policy and MSME Capacity Support Framework.

Other components of the ceremony include exhibition of MSMEs showcasing local products, services, and technological innovations; recognition and an award ceremony for outstanding MSMEs in Innovation, market expansion, and social impact, etc.

It can be  recalled that on 6th, December ,2017, the United Nations General Assembly selected June 27 as the International Day for Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to raise public awareness about  their contributions to sustainable development, innovation, and job creation.

In accordance with the 2024 Report of the World Bank (WB), MSMEs represent 90% of all businesses, contribute over 50% of GDP, and provide 60-70% of employment, principally in developing economies. They are also central   to inclusive growth in low-income countries, but face acute challenges–particularly access to finance, capacity building, and market integration. IN GRAND STYLE: COMMERCE MINISTRY OBSERVES 2025 INT’L MSMES DAY. Upholding the significance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Commerce Ministry commemorates the International MSMEs Day this year. Highlighting their pivotal role in global economies, MSMEs not only drive economic growth but also foster employment opportunities. In the wake of challenges surrounding financial accessibility, skills development, and market connectivity, addressing these concerns becomes imperative for sustained MSME development.
