Ambassador Gilad expressed the belief that the opening a Liberian Embassy in Israel would be a significant asset for Liberia, particularly in attracting investment and fostering cooperation in agriculture, education, and defense.
“The opening of a Liberian Embassy in Israel is a smart investment that will pay off greatly for Liberia. We anticipate an embassy in Liberia similar to the one we had here in the past,” Amb. Gilad stated.
He also praised Liberia for increasing female representation in cabinet minister positions, noting that Israel hopes to emulate this achievement.
Ambassador Gilad highlighted Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council as a major accomplishment and urged Liberians to take pride in this achievement.
Amb. Gilad, based in Ghana, is on his second visit to Liberia since presenting his letter of credence to President Boakai last year.
The Israeli ambassador disclosed that he held a closed-door meeting with Liberia’s Agriculture Minister to discuss strengthening the partnership between the two countries, particularly in the agricultural sector.
“Agriculture is being considered the pillar of our partnership, which has two dimensions between Israel and Liberia. Education is also seen as a key pillar of cooperation between our two nations,” Amb. Gilad explained.
He further revealed that he had discussions with Liberia’s Ministers of Education and Defense on a wide range of issues affecting their respective sectors.
Speaking at a press conference in Monrovia on Wednesday, he promised Israel’s full support for Liberia’s education sector, describing education as one of the most important pillars of the Liberian government’s development agenda.
Ambassador Gilad also disclosed having discussions with Liberia’s Defense Minister regarding Israel’s support for the Liberian defense sector.
He noted that Liberia maintains a leading position among African countries with strong ties to Israel.
The ambassador recalled Liberia’s historic support for Israel’s independence on November 29, 1947, when Liberia voted in favor of establishing Israel as an independent state. Since then, he said, the relationship between the two nations has remained strong and continues to grow.
Amb. Gilad, however, disclosed that the Israeli government has extended an invitation to Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to visit Israel in early 2026.
Ambassador Gilad reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to fostering closer ties with Liberia through initiatives focused on sustainable development and capacity-building.
Liberian officials are optimistic that his visit will lay the groundwork for expanded cooperation in various sectors, from agriculture to energy, underscoring the enduring partnership between the two nations amidst evolving global dynamics.
