Japanese Donated Rice Weighing 2,640 Metric Tons Arrives in Liberia

Monrovia – The Government of Liberia has announced the arrival of a consignment of Japanese-donated rice, weighing 2,640 metric tons, which arrived at the Freeport of Monrovia on Friday, March 28, 2025, aboard the MV Adalady.

This donation is part of Japan’s ongoing Kennedy Round (KR) Food Assistance program, aimed at bolstering food security and supporting socio-economic development in Liberia. The rice will be monetized under the Japanese Grant Commodity Program, with proceeds allocated to various socio-economic development projects not included in the national budget.

According to a Foreign Ministry’s release, the consignment will be available for purchase through Fouta Corporation, Northwest, and United Commodities Inc., at a wholesale price of US$15.75 and a retail price of US$16.50 per 30kg bag.

The public is advised to report any instances of the Japanese-donated rice being sold above these stipulated prices to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Inspectorate Division or the Japanese Counterpart Value Fund Secretariat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for prompt intervention against profiteering and unfair practices.

The Government of Liberia, on behalf of its citizens, extends profound gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their unwavering support and continued contributions to Liberia’s socio-economic development programs, the release noted.
