MONROVIA – Former Vice President of Liberia and Standard Bearer of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), Jewel Howard-Taylor, has described the demolition of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) headquarters on Saturday, August 23, 2025, as a defining moment in the country’s political history, while urging partisans and supporters of the “Mighty Blue Revolution” to remain steadfast.
In a public statement following the demolition, Howard-Taylor reflected on the impact of the incident and praised supporters of the CDC for their calm response amid the crisis.
“Today, August 23, 2025 marks a defining moment in our individual and political lives, regardless of which side of the divide one stands,” she wrote. “For me, as the former Vice President under the CDC-led government, chosen by then Standard Bearer Weah and then President Weah to serve in this capacity, I respectfully salute the gallant men and women of the Mighty Blue Revolution.”
The former Vice President commended CDC supporters for their adherence to the rule of law in the face of what she described as emotional strain. “For adhering to the rule of law, in spite of the emotional strain today has wrought upon us, they have shown courage and strength and tempered emotion in the face of it all,” she stated.
Howard-Taylor expressed optimism that the party and its supporters would overcome the setback and emerge stronger. “I am assured that this too will pass, for tomorrow is a new day. As we garner up our strongest will power and lace our boots to rebuild, not just a building, but the spirit and shattered lives of about half of the population who are members, friends, and sympathizers of the Blue Revolution, I bring to you the words of an unknown writer who penned ages ago: ‘In the darkest hour, the soul is replenished and given strength to continue and endure.’”
She emphasized that the demolition should not deter the CDC from its political vision, adding that the party’s mission remained unfinished. “I am ascertained that we are more than able to reset and rebuild it all. For the original intent of the Blue Revolution has not yet been accomplished. We must keep pushing until the change our forefathers prayed for, and many comrades died for, as the hope for our native land, becomes a reality,” Howard-Taylor said.
She concluded by calling on partisans and sympathizers to honor the sacrifices of those who had fought for Liberia’s freedom and to remain committed to building a better nation. “Their wish was for a land of liberty, flowing with milk and honey, freedom, inclusion, equality, unity, plenty and laughter. We must not fail this sacred trust. May we build it for the lives of many lost, some stolen, and many still living on hope for change; and may we fulfill this mandate for posterity. AMANDA!” she declared.
