Monrovia, Liberia – February 20, 2025 – Minister of Labour, Hon. Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr., has ordered the immediate full employment of 59 casual workers at Supreme Liberia, Inc., a mattress manufacturer, and Menzeh Zinc Factory, which produces aluminum and zinc products. Both companies are located on Bushrod Island.
Minister Kruah’s directive also mandates a minimum monthly salary of $150.00 for all previously casual workers. Contracted professionals at the two factories are to be transitioned to full-time employment with a minimum monthly wage of $175.00.
Furthermore, Minister Kruah instructed Menzeh Zinc Factory to replace all Pakistani nationals currently operating forklifts with qualified Liberian employees, ensuring commensurate benefits. “Never again will we allow jobs solely allotted for Liberians to be performed by foreigners under this Rescue Mission Government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, because our citizens need and deserve to work and improve their economic standards,” stated Minister Kruah.
The Minister’s directives came during an on-the-spot inspection tour of the two facilities, part of his ongoing engagement with workers, management, and workplace conditions nationwide.
He cautioned workers against resorting to violence to resolve grievances, urging them instead to engage in social dialogue. He also called on management to consider providing advance monthly payments upon worker request, supplying necessary protective gear, and fostering positive working relationships. Minister Kruah pledged regular follow-up visits by labor inspectors to ensure compliance.
The Chairman of Supreme Liberia, Inc., Mr. Jaspal Singh, and the General Manager of Menzeh Zinc Factory, Mohamed Asif, both expressed their appreciation for the Minister’s visit. They assured him of their full compliance with all labor regulations and his directives. Workers at both companies praised Minister Kruah for the first visit by a senior government official since the companies began operations over two years ago.
