Minister of Labor Cllr. Cooper Kruah has revealed that the Ministry generated over US$16 million in revenue between January and August 2026, driven primarily by work permit issuances. Speaking on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia, Minister Kruah stated that the Ministry is intensifying its compliance enforcement to potentially double its revenue collection before the year ends.
Alongside the financial gains, Minister Kruah presented employment assessment data covering 1,552 entities operating across Liberia, which highlights a steady upward trajectory in domestic hiring. Preliminary data compiled through July 2026 shows that 54,682 Liberians are currently employed within the surveyed institutions. Tracking historical data from the same 1,552 entities, Minister Kruah noted that Liberian employment stood at 30,803 in 2023, rose to 37,489 in 2024, climbed to 48,849 in a subsequent intermediate review, and reached 52,891 in 2025 before hitting current figures.
The Labor Minister emphasized that the figures, verified directly by Ministry field personnel, offer critical data for monitoring national workforce trends and enforcing labor regulations regarding foreign work permits. He added that total nationwide employment is likely significantly higher, as the current assessment reflects only a subset of active entities across the country.
