BONG MINES, LIBERIA – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) is closely monitoring the near-completion of the long-delayed renovation of the Outpatient Department (OPD) at Bong Mines Hospital, following legal action that forced the contractor to return to work.
Blessing Engineering and Construction Company, led by Mr. Barkollie Kollie, was awarded the government contract in 2024 to upgrade the hospital’s OPD, a critical facility serving thousands in the Bong Mines area. However, the company abandoned the project, triggering an investigation by the LACC in collaboration with the 9th Judicial Circuit Court in Bong County.
Refusing to let the case go unchecked, the LACC filed an indictment against the firm for failing to honor its contractual obligations. Under legal pressure, the contractor entered a pre-bargaining agreement with the court in May 2025, committing to finish the renovation within three weeks, with a deadline of June 20.
As of today, the OPD renovation stands visibly near completion, marking a significant development in a case that had come to symbolize impunity in public sector infrastructure projects. While the physical work is nearly done, the LACC has emphasized the broader importance of the case.
“This case is a stark reminder of the need for accountability in public infrastructure projects, especially in the health sector, where lives are at stake,” the Commission stated.
The LACC reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption at all levels and ensuring that government resources truly serve the Liberian people. According to the Commission, no company or institution will be allowed to hide behind unfulfilled contracts or broken promises.
The LACC says it will continue to oversee the final phase of the project to ensure full compliance and deliver a facility worthy of public trust.
