BO WATERSIDE – A major drug trafficking attempt was foiled on Thursday morning after officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) arrested a 23-year-old Liberian man in possession of over 58,000 pills of Tramadol at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed Sangare, was intercepted around 11:00 a.m. while driving a white minibus with license plate AM 6206. Sangare, a resident of the Stephen Tolbert Estate in Monrovia, was reportedly traveling from the Madina Market parking area in Conakry, Guinea.

During a routine vehicle inspection, LDEA agents discovered 583 packs containing a total of 58,300 pills of Tramadol, a controlled substance. Authorities estimate the street value of the seizure at approximately L$11.6 million (USD $61,368).

The confiscated drugs have been turned over to the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) for proper handling and further investigation.

Sangare is currently in the custody of the LDEA and is expected to face formal charges related to transnational drug trafficking. Officials say he will be forwarded to court following the completion of preliminary investigations.

The LDEA has described the case as a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat cross-border drug smuggling. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Liberia’s borders and cracking down on illegal narcotics that threaten public health and safety.
