Liberia: A Court of Dreams: Cape Mount Citizens Rally to Build New Sports Facility

The committee is also appealing to Grand Cape Mount citizens in the diaspora and other parts of Africa to contribute to the project.

The former head of the county’s Steering Committee, Mohammed K. Daramie, is leading a fundraising effort, stating that a new court would significantly benefit the local community.

Daramie highlighted that a large, unused area of the Momo Taweh Sports Ground is ideal for a new court.

The proposed facility would be able to seat approximately 150 spectators and would be a vital asset for local sports.

“We are also calling on the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Liberia Football Association (LFA), and all mining companies based in the county to buttress our effort,” Daramie said.

“After using our social development funds to build the Momo Taweh Sports pitch, we can assure that any assistance we get will be used for the intended purpose.”

According to Daramie, the new court would help improve the skills of young basketball players and better prepare the county’s team for the annual National County Sports Meet.

He noted that the Momo Taweh Sports Ground is about 75 percent the size of the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia making it a prime location for development.

The committee is also appealing to Grand Cape Mount citizens in the diaspora and other parts of Africa to contribute to the project.

Daramie emphasized that the help requested is not for any specific official but for the community’s overall growth and the skill development of its youth.

He added that a new court would also help encourage student-athletes from local junior and senior high schools to improve their basketball skills.
