Liberia: AFRICOM Announces Liberia to Host 2025 West Africa Logistics Conference—A First for the Nation

The landmark decision highlights Liberia’s growing role in regional security and logistics cooperation, while advancing its profile as a reliable partner in peacebuilding and defense infrastructure development.

Monrovia – Liberia will host the 2025 West Africa Logistics Conference (WALC), marking the first time the event will be held in the country, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has announced.

The landmark decision highlights Liberia’s growing role in regional security and logistics cooperation, while advancing its profile as a reliable partner in peacebuilding and defense infrastructure development.

Brigadier General George “Dutch” Dietrich, AFRICOM’s Director of Logistics, made the announcement, describing the move as a milestone in strengthening logistics capabilities and interoperability across West Africa.

“I am thrilled to announce this significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen regional collaboration and logistics capabilities,” said Brig. Gen. Dietrich. “Logistics remains the backbone of all operations, and is especially critical in a place as vast as the African continent.”

The 2025 WALC will focus on building logistics resilience, enhancing cooperation among West African nations, and addressing shared challenges in supply chain security, doctrine harmonization, and sustainable procurement.

AFRICOM praised Liberia’s commitment to regional stability and emphasized the importance of the upcoming conference for both military and civilian stakeholders.

The event will include expert panels, joint discussions, and practical exchanges between regional and international partners, aiming to improve logistics for military readiness, humanitarian missions, and disaster response.

AFRICOM also commended Liberia’s preparedness and engagement, with Brig. Gen. Dietrich expressing gratitude to the Liberian government and Armed Forces for their role in hosting the event.

“Liberia’s role in regional peace and security is growing, and we are proud to partner with a country committed to cooperation and development,” he said.

Hosting WALC is expected to provide Liberia with economic benefits, including investment opportunities, tourism inflows, and exposure to international stakeholders. It will also shine a light on Liberia’s logistics infrastructure and capacity to host high-level security events.

The move underscores Liberia’s post-conflict recovery progress and aligns with its broader goals of institutional strengthening and regional integration.

AFRICOM, which has supported Liberia through defense training, capacity-building, and humanitarian missions since the end of its civil wars, views the 2025 WALC as a chance to deepen its engagement in the country and across the region.

Preparations for the event will continue in collaboration with the Armed Forces of Liberia and regional security actors in the months ahead.
