Liberia And Israel Strengthen Education Ties During Ambassador Gilad’s Courtesy Visit

MONROVIA — The Ministry of Education on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, hosted His Excellency Roey Gilad, Ambassador of the State of Israel, for a high-level courtesy visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in Liberia’s education sector. Ambassador Gilad was received by Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah and members of the Ministry’s senior leadership, marking a renewed commitment to collaboration in support of Liberia’s national development agenda.

Minister Jallah expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Israel for their longstanding partnership, particularly in capacity-building and technical assistance for Liberia’s education system. “We are appreciative of Israel’s unwavering support for our efforts to strengthen and reform education across the country,” Minister Jallah said.

Ambassador Gilad, in turn, commended Liberia’s progress in educational reform and reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to sustainable, impactful initiatives. “The sky is the limit,” he remarked, highlighting the potential for continued collaboration between the two nations.

The discussions focused on strategic priorities critical to Liberia’s education development, including teacher capacity building, support for Rural Teacher Training Institutes (RTTIs), community engagement to promote inclusive education in over 250 schools nationwide, and advancing the $119 million EXCEL Project, Liberia’s flagship national investment in education reform. The visit also emphasized digital transformation, scaling data-driven systems and digital learning tools, and integrating STEM and environmental education to build climate resilience.

These initiatives are aligned with the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, which identifies education as a cornerstone of national progress. The Ministry of Education described the visit as an opportunity to deepen partnerships that support innovation, inclusion, and resilience in the sector.

The courtesy visit concluded with renewed optimism and a shared vision for a stronger Liberia–Israel partnership, with both sides committed to advancing education and building a more equitable, resilient future for Liberians.
