Kakata – The Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata was buzzing with excitement on Saturday, March 22, as the Booker Washington Institute Alumni Association (BWI-AA) secured a thrilling comeback victory against the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) – Margibi County Chapter in a soccer friendly.
The match began with SWAL-Margibi taking a 1-0 lead at halftime, thanks to a goal from Ackollie Nanakpallah, a prominent figure at Classic FM and CEO of Margibi-Liberia. The visitors controlled the first half, but the game took a dramatic turn in the second half.
Early in the second period, BWI-AA’s Juteh Toe, also known as “Margibi Prince” from the class of 2009, leveled the score at 1-1.
The momentum shifted further when SWAL-Margibi’s defense was reduced to nine men after two players were shown red cards for foul play.
Seizing the advantage, Stanley Gray, also from the class of 2009, put BWI-AA ahead for the first time in the match, scoring to make it 2-1.
Despite being down to nine players, SWAL-Margibi fought hard but struggled to break through BWI-AA’s solid defense.
As the match neared its end, Eric Coleman of BWI-AA sealed the victory with a third goal, bringing the final score to 3-1 in favor of the home team.
This win marks BWI-AA’s second consecutive victory over SWAL-Margibi County Chapter. Their first meeting was during the 94th Founder’s Day Celebration in 2024, where BWI-AA defeated the visitors 5-0 in a one-day soccer tournament at the newly refurbished BWI Sports Stadium.
The soccer friendly was held in conjunction with the BWI-AA Association Homecoming Celebration, which also featured a session to discuss the association’s strategic plans for the next five years.
