Baku – Liberia has called for integrating cultural wisdom and human intelligence into the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing that technological progress must respect and strengthen cultural diversity rather than marginalize it.
The Minister of Information, Hon. Jerolinmek M. Piah, made the call in remarks delivered on his behalf by Deputy Minister for Technical Services, Nat Bayjay, during the opening ceremony of the VII World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Speaking on the theme, “From Partnership to Collective Action: Strengthening Global Synergy for Intercultural Dialogue in the Age of AI,” Minister Piah underscored the importance of international frameworks that advance inclusion, leadership, connectivity, skills development, social cohesion and stability.
The Liberian Information Minister described intercultural dialogue as more than an exchange among different cultures, stressing that it is a practical means of building trust, promoting inclusion, strengthening peace and advancing collective action.
Minister Piah added that Liberia’s historical experience, along with the UNESCO framework, provides a strong foundation for strengthening intercultural dialogue at the national level and contributing to global efforts to ensure that AI and emerging technologies serve all cultures.
The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, along with heads of state and government, ministers, representatives of international and regional organizations, and intellectuals and experts from around the world.
In his welcome remarks, President Aliyev highlighted the Forum’s role as an inclusive platform for addressing pressing global issues, and emphasized stability, mutual respect among ethnic and religious communities, intercultural dialogue and international cooperation.
The Azerbaijani leader noted that in recent years the forum has become an effective and inclusive platform for discussing pressing issues on the global agenda. Held from October 27 to 30, 2026, under the general theme “Dialogue for a Shared Future: Building Bridges in a Fractured World,” the Forum provided a platform for countries and institutions to exchange experiences and ideas.
