Liberia: CDC-COP Threatens to Establish a “CDC Police Force” to Protect Liberians from State Security Officers’ Brutality, Wants LNP, NSA, and EPS Heads Dismissed

Monrovia – The newly elected Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change Council of Patriots (CDC-COP) Foday N. Massaquoi is calling President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to dismiss the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police Gregory Coleman, the Head of the Executive Protection Service Sam Gaye, and the National Security Agency boss Prince C. Johnson over what he termed as the continuous human rights violation.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Massaquoi vowed that if President Boakai does not dismiss the three top security apparatus heads, the CDC-COP will have no alternative but to form a parallel group to counter state securities officers.

“If Mr. Boakai fails to dismiss Gregory Coleman, Sam Gaye, and Prince C. Johnson within the next 72 hours—starting now –we will call on Chairman Atty. Janga Kowo to establish the CDC Police to protect Liberians including Cdcians, who have become victims of Unity Party Police brutality and untimely deaths,” he asserted.

According to the CDC-COP Chairman, Liberians are currently living in fear, adding that they are unable to freely express their political opinions without facing arrests or violence from state security forces.

“We kindly call on all patriotic Liberians to join the CDC Police upon the Chairman’s announcement in defense of the people’s party,” Massaquoi stated.

He linked Mr. Johnson to the mysterious death of Sgt. Bobby Mennah, a soldier who was found dead under questionable circumstances.

The CDC-COP leader claimed that state security officials falsely reported that Sgt. Mennah shot himself five times in the head, an explanation CDC-COP Chairman says is unbelievable and suspicious.

He said: “Our intelligence sources revealed that Johnson accused Sgt. Mennah orchestrated a protest by female soldiers against his previous appointment as Minister of Defense. To this day, no one has been held accountable for Sgt. Bobby Mennah’s death, while Mr. Johnson walks around freely with impunity.”

The CDC-COP also accused EPS Director Sam Gaye of operating what he termed as a secret “killing squad” composed of ex-combatants, tasked with harassing, intimidating, and even assassinating political opponents.

“Mr. Gaye is the most unprofessional and irresponsible head of the Executive Protection Service (EPS) in Liberia’s history. Gaye’s security policies, particularly his new rules for the presidential motorcade, which require ambulances, motorcyclists, taxi drivers, and tricycle riders to completely clear the roads whenever the president’s convoy is passing,” he said.

CDC-COP Chairman: “This is a blatant display of arrogance, lack of consciousness, and unnecessary showmanship that will be resisted.”

The CDC-COP Chairperson accused the Liberia National Police under Coleman’s leadership of harboring criminals.

He named Johnny Bolar Dean, Assistant Commissioner for Crime Services, and Sam Ballah, Deputy Chief Investigator, as corrupt officials who he says were previously dismissed for crimes including murder, corruption, and armed robbery but were allegedly reinstated into top positions.

“These individuals were fired for serious criminal offenses, yet they have been brought back into leadership roles within our police force. This is an insult to justice and a danger to the Liberian people,” Chairman Massaquoi said.

CDC-COP Alerts Over Mysterious Deaths Under the Boakai-Koung Administration

CDC-COP Chairman also further alleged that since the inception of the Unity Party-led government on January 24, 2024, Liberia has experienced an alarming number of mysterious deaths with 178 cases of suspicious deaths under the joint watch of Johnson, Gaye, and Coleman.

“With no proper investigations or prosecutions, the CDC-COP uses this platform to officially inform the Liberian people and the world that Liberia has been reduced to a hub of mysterious deaths and brutal killings under the leadership of Mr. Joseph N. Boakai and Jeremiah K. Koung,” Massaquoi stressed.

He named the “Kinjor Massacre” in Grand Cape Mount County and other places across the country that experienced human rights violations since taking office on January 24, 2024.

“On February 28, 2024, Police Inspector  Coleman allegedly ordered officers to shoot unarmed civilians, killing Bangalie Kamara, Essah Massaley, and Abdullah Kekerla in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County,” he said.

Massaquoi added: “Out of the 178 mysterious deaths recorded under Boakai’s administration, 59 victims were known CDCians, constituting 33% of the total cases. Many of these CDC supporters were murdered while wearing their party t-shirts, while others died in police custody under suspicious circumstances.”

CDC-COP Declares President Boakai as the “Most Vulnerable”

Massaquoi described President Boakai as the “most vulnerable” President in the world. He claimed that EPS officers at the Executive Mansion are so underpaid to the extent that some of them beg for as little as US$5 at the entrance of the President Rehab residence.

“Imagine what happens when someone offers them $5,000 in cash,” he asks.

CDC-COP Chairman added that the security protecting the President could be easily compromised.
