In a telephone interview with a relative, Karwor confirmed he is alive and expressed gratitude for his health. “I’m still alive. I want to thank the almighty God for allowing me to see another day. The rumors of my death are false and misleading,” he said. The rumors had circulated widely on social media early Monday morning.

Karwor, from Grand Bassa County, served as Chairman of the National Traditional Council from June 2006 until his replacement by Arthur Dowah of Bong County on August 9, 2024.

Karwor’s nearly two-decade tenure was marked by both support and criticism. Initially elected during Liberia’s post-conflict recovery, his leadership was seen as a stabilizing force.

However, over time, some Liberians criticized his long reign, viewing it as a sign of stagnation and a lack of democratic processes in traditional governance. In 2024, he was succeeded by Chief Dowah.
