Bong Mines, Liberia, May 30, 2025 – President Joseph Boakai has affirmed his government’s commitment to supporting the health delivery system in West Africa.

This assurance was given to delegates at the 18th biannual general meeting of the West African Post Graduate College of Nursing and Midwifery, held in Congo Town, Monrovia.

President Boakai emphasized that Liberia is collaborating with other West African nations to combat the spread and outbreak of diseases in the region, highlighting the seriousness with which his government views the health system not only in Liberia but also across West Africa.

He thanked the delegates for choosing Monrovia for their meeting and encouraged fruitful deliberations to improve regional healthcare.

Meanwhile, the President of the West African Post Graduate College of Nurses and Midwives, Dr. Saleh Garba, appealed to West African governments for financial assistance to construct their headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

Dr. Garba noted that the college has already purchased land but needs support due to a significant reduction in international funding.

During the meeting, Liberian public health expert, Mrs. Woseh Gobeh-Weah, delivered the keynote speech, recommending that nurses and midwives engage governments for increased funding and adopt a more scientific approach in their work to improve healthcare services.

The event also saw the presentation of honorary fellowships to several individuals, including First Lady Katumu Boakai, Mrs. Woseh Gobeh-Weah, and Augustus Flomo, in recognition of their contributions to the college and the health sector in West Africa.

The meeting, on the theme “Collaboration and Partnership towards Improving Quality Healthcare in the West African Region,” gathered over 450 delegates from across the West African region. Editing by Jonathan Browne
