Liberia: Fire Destroys Rep. Emmanuel Yarh’s Apartment Building, Occupants Displaced in Kakata

Margibi County—A fire has destroyed a two-apartment building owned by Margibi District Four Representative Emmanuel Yarh, leaving several occupants homeless in the Lango Community in Kakata City, Margibi County.

The blaze, which broke out around 2:00 p.m. on Friday, completely gutted the building located in the densely populated neighborhood. Eyewitnesses said the fire started at the back of the house and quickly spread, eventually causing the roof to collapse.

Tenants, many in a state of confusion and disbelief, were seen surveying the wreckage as onlookers urged them not to enter the dangerously damaged structure.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but affected residents confirmed to FrontPage Africa that the house was connected to the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) power grid prior to the incident.

One of the tenants, Princess Fayiah, tearfully recounted how the fire disrupted her family’s life. “I was sleeping when my husband woke me up, shouting that the house was on fire,” she said. “The flames spread so fast, we couldn’t save anything. Everything my family has worked for was inside that building and got destroyed.”

Another affected resident, Sylvester, who ran a small business from the premises, said he lost all his goods. “I have nothing left to take care of my children,” he lamented. “I was hoping to sell drinks to support their feeding and pay their school fees for the upcoming academic year.”

The victims are now calling on Representative Yarh—who owns the property and also serves as their district lawmaker—as well as other relevant authorities, to intervene and assist them in this time of need.

Meanwhile, efforts by FrontPage Africa to reach Representative Emmanuel Yarh for comment proved unsuccessful, as repeated calls to his phone went unanswered.
