Liberia: First Lady Joins Nation in Mourning as Book of Condolence Opens for Ambassador Grigsby

Monrovia – First Lady Kartumu Boakai today joined President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr., and senior government officials in signing the book of condolence for the late Honorable Sylvester Grigsby.

In a solemn ceremony at the Executive Mansion, Mrs. Boakai reflected on Grigsby’s legacy of service, humility, and dedication to Liberia, his family, and humanity. She praised the late Minister of State for Presidential Affairs for his profound societal impact, calling his passing a “great loss to the nation.”

As Mother of the Nation, the First Lady extended condolences to the bereaved family, offering prayers for divine comfort during this time of grief.

Ambassador Grigsby, who served until his death on August 9, 2025, succumbed to a prolonged illness. The government has declared a period of mourning, with flags flown at half-mast and tributes pouring in from across the country.
