Liberia: Foreign Affairs Assistant Minister Resigns After Suspension Over Alleged Gross Insubordination

Monrovia – Karishma Pelham-Raad, Liberia’s Assistant Minister for International Organizations, tendered her resignation on Monday following a suspension from her post.

An internal memo from Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyantee, addressed to all deputy ministers, stated that Pelham-Raad had been suspended by the Executive Mansion on September 3, 2025, from her role as Assistant Minister for the Bureau of International Organizations.

The memo, dated September 4, 2025, further indicated that Daniel Koikoi would serve as Officer-in-Charge of the Bureau, working closely with Dr. Ibrahim A. Nyei, Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration. Minister Nyantee asked all staff to “accord Hon. Koikoi all necessary assistance” during the discharge of his duties.

FrontPage Africa gathered that Pelham Raad’s was suspended “for behavior inconsistent with the diplomatic culture of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and for gross insubordination.”

According to sources, the suspension followed an incident in which Pelham-Raad allegedly disrespected a senior official at Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations. The internal dispute ultimately led to her suspension and subsequent resignation.

The Executive Mansion has confirmed that President Boakai has accepted her resignation.
