Speaking at the Gurley Street Mosque, Clarke highlighted the gesture as a demonstration of Weah’s continued support for Muslims and their spiritual commitments.
Monrovia – Former President George Manneh Weah has donated food items and cash to various mosques across Montserrado County in observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan. The donation, which began on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, is expected to continue for the next week.
The donation included ten bags of rice, five cartons of fish, five cartons of chicken, 15 cases of water and soft drinks, and $300 in cash per mosque. These items were distributed to several mosques to support the Muslim community during their fasting and prayer period.
Aworna Clarke, a member of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Disciplinary Committee, presented the donation on behalf of the former President.
Speaking at the Gurley Street Mosque, Clarke highlighted the gesture as a demonstration of Weah’s continued support for Muslims and their spiritual commitments.
“This donation from Mr. Weah’s office is his way of standing with our brothers and sisters who are fasting and praying for the nation,” Clarke said, urging the Muslim community to continue praying for peace and stability in Liberia.
Grand Mufti Sheik Abu Bakar Sumaworo, receiving the donation on behalf of the Muslim community, expressed gratitude and praised Weah for his timely and significant contribution.
“We are not surprised by this donation because it is not the first time he has supported the Muslim community in Liberia,” Sumaworo noted. He also emphasized the importance of national unity and stated that Muslims would use the holy month of Ramadan to pray for peace and reconciliation in the country.
“We will use this Ramadan to pray for peace so that the divisions in our nation can be resolved,” he added.
