Liberia: Former President Weah Refutes Billionaire Elon Musk Offers to Buy Ballon D’or

Monrovia– Ex-president George Weah has refuted claims that billionaire Elon Musk offered to purchase his prestigious football award.

In a social media post, Weah who was the  winner of the 1995 Ballon d’Or, clarified that while he has consistently stated his Ballon d’Or is not for sale, Musk has never made such an offer.

Said Weah, “While it is true that my Ballon D’or trophy is not for sale, as I have said many times, Mr. Musk has never offered to buy it.”

He added, “The story trending on social media is untrue and inaccurate. I have to make this clarification for the sake of truth and to set the record straight”

Former AC Milan forward won the Ballon d’Or in 1995, making history as the first non-European and the only African player to achieve this feat.

The forward outstanding performances with Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan that year earned him the prestigious award, solidifying his legacy as one of Africa’s greatest footballers.
