MONROVIA – Former President George Manneh Weah has thrown his full support behind the growing wave of protests across Liberia, commending citizens who continue to exercise their constitutional right to peaceful assembly. In an official statement issued on Thursday, July 17, 2025, following the “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” protest organized by STAND and the CDC, Weah praised the determination of Liberians who took to the streets and sharply criticized the Boakai administration for what he described as its failure to respect the will of the people.
Weah emphasized that in any true democracy, peaceful protest is not just a right but a necessity. He warned the government against attempts to intimidate or undermine organized movements demanding change, stating that “every organized protest that reflects the will of the people deserves respect, protection, and attention, not intimidation, sabotage, or dismissal by the Boakai government.”
He noted that the effectiveness of a protest is not measured by individual presence or absence, but by the collective will of the people to hold power accountable.“We are all members of various coalitions and political affiliations,” he said, “but above all, we are citizens of the Republic of Liberia, a sovereign people with inviolable rights.”
Weah extended special recognition to the leadership of STAND, a movement led by Mulbah Morlu, applauding their courage in the face of what he called bad governance under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. He urged protesters to remain peaceful and principled, reminding them that the struggle must always prioritize national interest above political division.
“Liberia is and must always remain bigger than any one person, group, or political party,” the former president declared. “Let us all stand firm in the truth: Liberia First. Liberia Foremost. Liberia Always.” “Liberia is and must always remain bigger than any one person, group, or political party,” the former president declared. “Let us all stand firm in the truth: Liberia First. Liberia Foremost. Liberia Always.”
He concluded by encouraging all Liberians never to surrender their right to be heard and to continue standing up for their rights and for the future of the country.
