At the ceremony, Jerry Jenkins Quoi, Special Assistant to the companies, highlighted the success of a previous initiative launched by Dr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva (commonly known as JEETY) in September 2024.
The initiative provided free eye treatment for over 400 residents, with 288 individuals diagnosed with eye conditions and referred to the Liberia Eye Center at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia for surgery, all at no cost.
Dr. Sachdeva shared that the new eye clinic will offer bi-monthly free eye screenings and surgeries. “In just one day, we treated 405 people, and performed surgeries on 122 individuals who were at risk of losing their eyesight,” he said. “This clinic will offer more consistent care for the people of Margibi.”
In honor of his 59th birthday, Dr. Sachdeva also participated in a humanitarian outreach, distributing hot meals, bread, and drinks to inmates at the Kakata Central Prison. He announced plans to install a safe water system on the prison grounds and provide monthly rice donations.
“This is my way of supporting the government’s efforts to ensure prisoners receive proper nutrition,” Dr. Sachdeva stated. “I encourage all Liberians to support our prison system.”
Kakata Central Prison Superintendent Varney Lake expressed his gratitude for Dr. Sachdeva’s generosity and choice to celebrate his birthday by helping those in need rather than in a lavish manner.
The humanitarian initiatives also extended to the Monrovia Central Prison, where Dr. Sachdeva provided hot meals, and to disadvantaged youth and employees of Salala Rubber Corporation in Monrovia.
