Liberia: Labour Ministry Targets 1,000 Students for Vacation Job Program This Year

Monrovia, Liberia – Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah has announced that the Ministry of Labour is targeting 1,000 Liberian students for this year’s Vacation Job Program, a significant increase from the 360 students who benefited last year.

“We know that job opportunities in Liberia are difficult to come by. So, our emphasis is on how we can create employment,” Minister Kruah said. “For the vacation job program, the minimum monthly pay is US$150, and that amount may increase next year.”

Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Thursday, July 4, 2025, in Monrovia, Minister Kruah said the initiative is designed to provide temporary employment for students during the school break. This, he noted, will help them earn income to support their education in preparation for the upcoming academic year.

He encouraged interested and eligible students to visit the Ministry’s office and obtain an application form from the Employment Bureau to enroll in the program.

The Labour Minister emphasized that the initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to empower young people and ease the financial burden on families through job creation. He added that the program is open to students in Montserrado County and across the country.

According to Minister Kruah, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has expressed deep concern about employment challenges in the country and remains committed to expanding job opportunities for Liberians.

Meanwhile, Minister Kruah called on students selected for the program to demonstrate respect, dedication, and hard work in order to justify the support of those partnering with the government to create these employment opportunities.
