MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia, through the Office of the Vice President, has officially launched its National Action Plan (NAP) on Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS), a major step toward advancing inclusive governance, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
The launch ceremony, held Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, brought together government officials, international partners, civil society actors, and youth organizations in a collective call to action.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah hailed the NAP as a blueprint for empowering young people to play an active role in shaping Liberia’s future. “This plan is a statement of our collective belief in the power, potential, and promise of Liberia’s youth,” Dr. Jallah declared. She emphasized that youth inclusion is not only a matter of equity but a foundation for peace, security, and national progress.
Liberia’s NAP is anchored in United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 and its subsequent resolutions 2419 and 2535. It is structured around five key pillars: participation, prevention, protection, partnerships, and disengagement and reintegration. Together, these priorities seek to expand youth participation in decision-making, address the root causes of conflict, safeguard rights, strengthen collaboration, and support reintegration efforts for young people transitioning from conflict into productive roles in society.
Dr. Jallah further noted that the success of the initiative aligns with the ARREST Agenda under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and will require strong collaboration across all sectors.
International and national partners, including the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), the Embassy of Sweden, and representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs, welcomed the NAP as a landmark step forward. They pledged continued support to ensure its successful implementation.
The Government of Liberia has called on all stakeholders, including youth groups, communities, civil society, government institutions, and development partners, to work together in translating the plan into tangible actions that will strengthen peace, deepen inclusion, and unlock the potential of Liberia’s young population.
