Monrovia – In a dramatic development at the House of Representatives, Majority Bloc-led leadership has forcibly removed embattled Speaker Fonati Koffa from his office. The Speaker’s office was broken into, and his personal belongings are now being cleared out, following repeated demands by the Majority Bloc for him to vacate the premises.
For months, the Majority Bloc-led House has insisted that Speaker Koffa step aside to allow their elected Speaker, Richard Koon, to assume the office. However, Koffa has steadfastly refused, claiming that his removal is illegal. In response to a letter—allegedly sent by Representative James Kolleh and purportedly written by Chief Clerk Mildred Sayon—requesting that he vacate his office, Koffa dismissed the communication and accused those behind it of attempting to seize his position using the same “illegal means and the force of the Executive” that they allegedly employed to secure the speakership.
Upon his recent return from the United States, Speaker Koffa reiterated his stance, citing remarks by Justice Minister Tweh and contending that his interpretation of the situation had paved the way for what he deems “illegal acts.” He made it clear that he would not engage in further discussions on the matter, adding that the Majority Bloc was free to proceed as they wished.
The forcible eviction of Speaker Koffa is expected to further deepen the rift within the House of Representatives, intensifying the ongoing leadership crisis and raising questions about the future direction of the legislative body.
