The mammoth gathering, one of the largest seen in the county in recent political memory, brought together supporters from across all 19 electoral districts of Nimba County. The event also drew national and international attention with high-profile endorsements, including that of former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Sirleaf urged Nimbaians to rally behind Gongloe-Weh, emphasizing the need for female representation in the Liberian Senate. “It’s time women are given a seat at the table. Edith is the right voice at the right time,” she told the cheering crowd.
Also throwing their weight behind Gongloe-Weh were Montserrado District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah, Bong County District #3 Representative Marvin Cole, and former Monsterrado District #8 Representative Acarous Moses Gray, alongside several leaders of the opposition CDC and international women’s groups.
The speakers took turns criticizing the government’s endorsement of Representative Samuel Kogar, calling it a move that could lead to unnecessary by-elections and further strain on public resources. They urged voters to reject Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s influence and instead back a candidate they believe truly represents the people’s interest.
Gongloe-Weh, visibly moved by the overwhelming show of support, vowed to bring transformative leadership to the Nimba Legislative Caucus, which she described as being dominated by men with little to show in terms of development. “This is your movement, and I will not let you down,” she said.
As the senatorial race heads into the final stretch, the sheer size of the crowd in Ganta may signal a strong momentum in favor of the lone female candidate in the race.
