HARPER, Maryland County — The Minister of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has challenged students of Tubman University to move beyond classroom learning and apply their knowledge to solving real-time challenges facing Liberia.
Minister Ngafuan made the call on Monday, September 14 at the 17th Founder’s Day Celebration of Tubman University in Harper City, Maryland County, where he encouraged students to embrace education not merely as a pathway to earning academic credentials, but as a powerful tool for national transformation.
“Knowledge must leave the textbooks and enter the field,” Minister Ngafuan told the audience, emphasizing the importance of translating academic knowledge into practical solutions that can improve the lives of ordinary Liberians.
According to him, Liberia’s development depends not only on the acquisition of knowledge but also on the ability of young people to apply what they learn to address the country’s pressing challenges.
“A university education becomes more meaningful when graduates can use their expertise to create opportunities, solve problems and contribute to national development,” Minister Ngafuan said.
He urged students to see themselves as future leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers and change agents whose contributions will help shape Liberia’s future.
Minister Ngafuan stressed that academic excellence should be accompanied by discipline, creativity, innovation, integrity and a strong sense of responsibility to society.
He encouraged the students to take advantage of their time at Tubman University to develop skills that can be applied beyond the university environment.
The MFDP Minister noted that Liberia needs a generation of young people who can convert ideas into practical interventions, particularly in areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, technology, education, public administration and economic development other sectors that would contribute to Liberia’s Development.
Minister Ngafuan recognized the importance of institutions such as Tubman University in producing the human capital needed to advance Liberia’s development agenda.
He encouraged the university community to continue strengthening the link between academic programs, research and the practical needs of communities and the national economy.
He stated that Liberia’s development ambitions cannot be achieved without significant investment in human capital and the empowerment of young people.
Held under the theme: ‘‘Seventeen Years of Excellence: Advancing Knowledge, Innovation and Knowledge”, the program brought together students, faculty members, chiefs, youths, elders and women organizations who lauded the arrival of Minister Ngafuan and his entourage in Maryland to ascertain issues confronting the development of their region.
