The 25-year-old was forced off the pitch just 18 minutes into the match. Medical scans later confirmed the extent of the injury, and Kamara has since undergone successful surgery, according to Romanian sports outlet Gsp.ro.
CFR Cluj head coach Dan Petrescu expressed concern over Kamara’s condition, saying the injury could potentially sideline the player for most of the season.
“Kamara may miss almost the entire season. It is possible that he has a fracture. I am worried,” Petrescu told reporters following the match.
The injury comes on the heels of Kamara’s most productive season yet. During the 2024/2025 campaign, he scored eight goals and contributed three assists in 37 matches across all competitions. He played a pivotal role in CFR Cluj’s successful Romanian Cup run, scoring three goals in four matches and helping the club secure the trophy — a historic moment that made him the first Liberian to win the Romanian Cup.
Despite his absence, Kamara’s presence was still felt during CFR Cluj’s 1–1 draw with Rapid București on Sunday. His teammate Virgiliu Postolachi, who opened the scoring for Cluj, dedicated the goal to Kamara by celebrating with the Liberian’s number 7 jersey.
“That one was for Kamara. He’s part of this family, and we’re with him,” Postolachi said after the match.
Kamara’s injury is a major blow to CFR Cluj, who had counted on his pace, strength, and attacking flair in both domestic and European competitions. His recovery is expected to extend into early 2026, depending on his rehabilitation progress.
A product of Liberia’s youth football system, Kamara has grown into one of the country’s most prominent football exports. His injury has prompted an outpouring of support from Liberian fans and football stakeholders, all hoping for his speedy and full recovery.
