Monrovia, Liberia – The National Civil Society Union of Liberia (NACSUL) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic industrial accident that occurred on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Gardnersville facility of Sethi Ferro Fabrik Inc., resulting in the death of an employee, Saah Samukai.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, NACSUL applauded the management of Sethi Ferro Fabrik for its swift response in acknowledging the incident and extending support to the bereaved family.
NACSUL’s Findings and Call for Patience
Following the explosion, NACSUL dispatched a team of investigators to the company’s Oxygen Plant in Gardnersville and the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Sinkor to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
According to NACSUL’s findings, only one employee, Saah Samukai, lost his life, and no other injuries were recorded—contrary to earlier media reports suggesting two fatalities and multiple injuries.
The organization, in a release issued through its president and CEO Amos B.S. Kanneh
President/CEO, emphasized that since the management of Sethi Ferro Fabrik has accepted responsibility for the incident, shown remorse, and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation, it is essential for all parties to remain calm and allow due process.
“We urge the public to exercise patience as the company works with relevant government authorities to determine the exact cause of the explosion and put in place preventive measures,” NACSUL stated.
Call for Swift Government Action
NACSUL also commended the Government of Liberia for its prompt intervention in launching an investigation and called on authorities to expedite their findings to allay public fears and ensure stability at the company.
The civil society group reiterated its commitment to advocating for workplace safety and transparency while urging all stakeholders to prioritize employee welfare and industrial safety.
