Liberia: National Beverage, Inc. Denounces ‘Misleading’ Reports, Warns Against Propaganda, and Threatens Legal Action

The management in a press release said this outdated video is now being falsely portrayed by certain media outlets as a recent exposé of alleged unsanitary conditions at our production facility.

Gardnersville, Montserrado County – The Management of National Beverage, Inc., producer of Diamond Mineral Water has rejected and strongly condemned recent “misleading” media reports circulating on various social media platforms, particularly Facebook. These reports reference a clandestinely recorded video, captured years ago by unknown individuals within the company’s premises.

The management in a press release said this outdated video is now being falsely portrayed by certain media outlets as a recent exposé of alleged unsanitary conditions at our production facility.

“These outlets, operating in bad faith and in flagrant violation of journalistic ethics, have maliciously revived a previously debunked claim in an attempt to mislead the public,” release said.

Among the false accusations, the reports claim that Diamond Mineral Water is being re-bottled from contaminated sources, allegedly posing a health risk to consumers. “We want to make it unequivocally clear: these claims are entirely false, malicious, and part of a coordinated disinformation campaign intended to damage our company’s reputation and erode the trust we have built over the years,” it added.

Background and Clarification on the Video

According to the company, on September 11, 2023, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), through then-Deputy Minister for Industry Thomas G. Goba, Sr., formally informed our management of similar concerns raised during a media talk show. The Ministry immediately launched a thorough investigation.

A team from the MoCI—comprising Mr. Nyenati Kaffey, Sr. (Director of Industrial Development and Compliance Support), Mr. Abraham Swaray (Director of Standards), and Mr. Rufus T. Kakar—was assigned to assess our facility and processes.

National Beverage, Inc. fully cooperated with the investigation, which resulted in a comprehensive and impartial review of our operations.

The company disclosed that On September 25, 2023, the National Standards Laboratory (NSL) released a report clearing our company of any wrongdoing. The report confirmed that all chemicals and processes used in our water production meet Liberia’s national health and safety standards. It was reviewed by Mr. Sunday J. Kerkula, Laboratory Coordinator, and approved by Mr. Konah O. Reeves, Technical Manager of the NSL.

Following the report’s release, Mr. Goba formally congratulated our management in a letter dated September 27, 2023, affirming that Diamond Mineral Water is safe for human consumption and fully approved for sale on the Liberian market. The Ministry also praised our cooperation and announced a 90-day monitoring program led by Mr. Abraham Swaray to ensure continued compliance.

Response to Renewed ‘Falsehoods’

The management said in light of the Ministry’s findings, we find it deeply regrettable that some media outlets have chosen to reignite this baseless narrative, noting that these actions are a gross violation of journalistic standards and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public for ulterior motives.”

“National Beverage, Inc. hereby issues a stern warning to all individuals and entities spreading these outdated and false claims: Cease and desist immediately or face legal consequences. We will take all necessary legal actions to protect our reputation, our employees, and the consumers who rely on our product.”

‘Commitment to Quality and Public Health’

The company reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to producing and delivering safe, high-quality drinking water to the people of Liberia. Despite these distractions, we remain focused and dedicated to upholding the highest standards in every aspect of our operations.

“Diamond Mineral Water continues to be a symbol of purity, reliability, and excellence—and will remain Liberia’s number one water brand,” it concluded.
