MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has taken wide-ranging disciplinary actions against several of its officers following investigations by the Professional Standards Department (PSD), with penalties including dismissals, suspensions, reinstatements, and pending prosecutions.
The measures, which covered cases between August 4 and August 27, 2025, were announced in a press release issued Friday, August 29, 2025, and signed by LNP spokesperson Deputy Commissioner of Police Cecelia G. Clarke.
According to the release, the actions reflect the LNP’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law. “These measures targeted officers found in violation of duty, ethics, and internal regulations, underscoring the LNP’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and the rule of law,” the police stated.
Among the most notable cases, Patrolmen Edwin T. Caesar and Stephen B. Wanawon of the Police Support Unit were dismissed for unethical conduct during the enforcement of a court eviction order at the CDC Party Headquarters on August 23, 2025. Chief Inspector Meme Tomah Dahn was suspended for two months with salary deduction after instigating an altercation and failing to appear at a supervisory hearing.
Other officers faced varying punishments, including suspensions for misconduct, financial obligations, and verbal abuse, while some were reinstated after serving previous suspensions and complying with PSD recommendations. The police also confirmed that Detective Kanvan Shilue is under investigation in connection with a rape allegation involving a 15-year-old girl, with the case referred for possible prosecution.
The statement further noted the dismissal of Patrolman Dennis B. Mulbah for perpetual absence without leave and desertion, as well as indefinite suspensions of officers who failed to settle financial obligations or were involved in assault cases.
The LNP emphasized that officers found in violation of the Duty Manual, Administrative Instructions, and the LNP Act of 2015 will face strict consequences. “The Liberia National Police remains committed to enforcing discipline and upholding the highest standards of conduct,” the statement concluded.
