Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and U.S. Ambassador Mark Toner have reaffirmed the long-standing and historic relationship between Liberia and the United States during a ceremony commemorating the 249th anniversary of American independence.

The colorful event, hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, brought together high-ranking Liberian government officials, including House Speaker Richard Koon, senior cabinet members, and members of the diplomatic corps.
In his remarks, President Boakai praised the United States’ newly launched foreign policy—centered on commercial diplomacy—and pledged his administration’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that encourages investment and sustainable economic growth.
U.S. Ambassador Mark Toner began his speech by congratulating President Boakai on successfully guiding Liberia’s campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. He said Liberia’s election to the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member reaffirmed Liberia’s status as a stable democracy and recognized its growing regional and global leadership role.
Ambassador Toner also lauded the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for its 64 years of continuous support to Liberia, noting that the two nations are on the brink of a renewed partnership grounded in economic opportunity and mutual prosperity.
The celebration began with the playing of the national anthems of both Liberia and the United States. Traditionally, the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia hosts the event ahead of the official Independence Day celebration on July 4.
