Liberia: President Boakai Urges Government Officials to Serve with Fear of God and in the Interest of Liberia

Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Tuesday urged government officials to serve with the fear of God and work in the best interest of Liberia. He made the statement at the Executive Mansion during the commissioning of several government officials, including diplomats heading for foreign missions.

In his remarks, President Boakai emphasized that those taking public office are working for the Liberian people, not for him personally.

“Once you take a public office, you are not working for me, it is the Liberian people you are working for,” he said. “You are working for not just the people in Monrovia, but for Liberians all across the country.”

The President urged the officials to represent Liberia with integrity, noting that their actions and commitments would have an impact on the nation’s progress.

“The way you commit yourself, the way you represent the country, we ask you to do it in the fear of God,” President Boakai added. “If you don’t do it well, they will talk because we have everything here, and if we can manage it well, we can build our country.”

Among those commissioned were Central Bank Governor Henry F. Saamoi, Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Al Hassan Conteh, Liberia’s Ambassador to Senegal Ali Sylla, and Liberia’s Ambassador to Japan, Edward W. Appleton, among others.

Addressing the diplomats, President Boakai reminded them of their crucial role in representing Liberia on the global stage. “As diplomats, you are carrying the image of the country. You are going to represent Liberia, and you must serve in the interest of every Liberian,” he said.

He also called on those in public service to approach their duties with commitment. “Let’s serve our country earnestly,” President Boakai urged.

In response, Central Bank Governor Henry F. Saamoi pledged to work on rebranding the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL). “At the Central Bank, we have planned to implement policy measures that strengthen monetary policy and build strong international reserves, which are crucial for preserving the Liberian dollar,” he said. “We are committed to rebranding the Central Bank as the cornerstone for resetting the country’s economy on a viable trajectory.”

Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Al Hassan Conteh, spoke on behalf of the diplomats. He expressed gratitude to President Boakai for the opportunity to serve and pledged to work diligently to strengthen bilateral relations.

“We understand our role in fostering cooperation, understanding, and mutual respect between our nations,” Dr. Conteh said. “This ceremony highlights the significance of diplomacy in advancing Liberia’s interest and contributing to global peace and development. We will uphold the value of diplomacy while serving Liberia in our respective countries.”
