Liberia: Rule of Law Caucus Boycotts Majority Bloc’s Reconciliation Meeting

CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia – The Rule of Law Caucus has announced its decision to boycott the Majority Bloc’s proposed “reconciliatory” meeting, labeling it a facade.

The Caucus, through its spokesperson Dixon Seboe (District #16, Montserrado Co.) contends that the meeting is an attempt to mask the Majority Bloc’s arbitrary suspension of a caucus member for expressing his opinions, a move he believes infringes upon freedom of speech and expression.

In an interview on Bana FM, Seboe emphasized that the Majority Bloc’s actions lack genuine reconciliatory intent, rendering their meeting irrelevant to the Rule of Law Caucus. He also highlighted the caucus’s anticipation of the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Bill of Information on Friday, March 14, expressing hope for a clear and unambiguous ruling.

Seboe criticized the inclusion of Representative Ellen Attoh-Wreh in the meeting, noting her current attendance at an International Women’s Day conference in the United States.

In a separate press statement, the Rule of Law Caucus condemned the Majority Bloc’s suspension of Representative Yekeh Kolubah, deeming it illegal and unconstitutional.

The caucus has consistently opposed the Majority Bloc’s actions, previously withdrawing from sessions led by Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon and urging respect for the Supreme Court’s rulings to uphold Liberia’s democratic principles.

The ongoing leadership crisis in the House of Representatives continues to raise concerns about governance and the rule of law in Liberia.
