Liberia: Rule of Law Caucus Demands Accountability After Invasion of Speaker’s Office by Rep. Kolleh

Monrovia – The Rule of Law Caucus has condemned Representative James Kolleh’s actions after he led a group in storming the Capitol and vandalizing the Speaker’s office. The invasion, which occurred on Armed Forces Day during the visit of Sierra Leone’s Head of State, has been described by the group as an assault on the country’s rule of law and its democratic institutions.

The group issued a statement demanding immediate action from President Joseph Boakai, urging him to address the actions of those involved and warning that such behavior could destabilize Liberia and exacerbate the ongoing political crisis.

“This behavior is dangerous and undermines the rule of law,” the statement said. “It creates a potential crisis that could spiral out of control.”

The Rule of Law Caucus specifically criticized Kolleh and his accomplices, pointing out that their actions took place without a court order or legal authority, setting a dangerous precedence for lawlessness in Liberia.

The Caucus also called on the Minister of Justice to hold those responsible accountable, expressing concern that the group may have acted under the assumption they would face no legal consequences.

“There is no precedent in Liberia’s democratic history for such an outrageous act, and it must not be tolerated,” the statement continued.

The Rule of l Law Caucus has vowed to take legal action against Kolleh and his group, pledging to hold them fully accountable for their unlawful actions. The group reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the rule of law is upheld and urged Liberians, the international community, and religious groups to unite in rejecting such behavior. “The rule of law must prevail,” the statement concluded
