The project was funded by the central government through Senator Nuquay’s Office, under the auspices of the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), as part of its Legislative Support Projects.
The Larkay-Ta Senior High School stands as the only senior high school in the entire Larkay-Ta Township, which comprises three clans, including Giamusu, Waymaquelleh and Gulowumah.
Giving a brief history of the project, Prince Sackie-Teh, Chairman of the Project Committee, recalled that during the 2020 Special Senatorial Election, the citizens of Larkay-Ta Township overwhelmingly endorsed Emmanuel Nuquay’s candidacy. As a symbol of their support, they presented him with the symbolic key to the township.
According to Mr. Sackie-Teh, after his victory, Senator Nuquay engaged the community about their development priorities.
“We, the citizens, presented to Senator Nuquay a proposal to upgrade our junior high school to a senior high level. This led to the groundbreaking and eventual construction of the annex building,” he said.
Mr. Sackie-Teh extended the township’s appreciation to Senator Nuquay, stating that this initiative was not his first development contribution.
He noted that the senator has initiated several projects in the area dating back to his tenure in the House of Representatives from 2006 to 2011.
For his part, Senator Nuquay expressed deep gratitude to the residents of Larkay-Ta Township for their consistent support.
He explained that he thought to upgrade the school due to the financial challenges faced by many parents who could not afford to send their children to urban centers like Kakata after their children completion of junior high school.
“Because of those limitations, I was inspired to seek funding to transform the junior high school into a senior high school,” he said.
Senator Nuquay praised the New Town Enterprises Incorporated, the construction company responsible for the annex, for the quality of their work.

“I have been informed that due to quality of work done here, this project has become a legacy project for LACE and is being showcased as success story,” he noted.
He acknowledged the government’s financial constraints and emphasized the role of legislators in advocating for development.
Continuing, Senator Nuquay stated, “Our critics often question why legislators push for these types of projects. But if you hadn’t asked me, we wouldn’t be here today celebrating the elevation of your school to high school level.”
He added that the project reflects quality representation and is a clear example of the impact of government resources at the community level.
“Today, you are feeling the impact of the government—because we were able to use government money to elevate this school,” he said.
He, however, urged the citizens of Larkay-Ta to support the local education authorities and help maintain the facility.
Receiving the keys to the new facility, Robert M. Zaza, Margibi County Education Officer, thanked Senator Nuquay for the annex, noting that the senator has consistently contributed to the improvement of the county’s education system.
“This is a legacy project of Senator Nuquay. It will go a long way in educating the children of Larkay-Ta Township,” Mr. Zaza said.
He officially announced that the school will begin operating as a senior high school at the level of 10th grade starting this 2025/2026 academic year.
Mr. Zaza also called on residents to work collaboratively with the local education office to ensure the effective management and sustainability of the school.
