Liberia Set to Host PAW’s 94th W/African Council Gathering | News

The Liberia West African Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW), 35th Episcopal District, is set to host its 94th Annual Convention next week in Monrovia, bringing together pastors, church leaders, and international delegates for a weeklong spiritual gathering focused on unity and revival.

The convention will be held under the theme, “And They Continue in One Accord,” drawn from the biblical text Acts 2:38, which organizers say underscores the importance of unity, spiritual renewal, and collective commitment to ministry growth.

Speaking to reporters in Monrovia, Diocesan Bishop of the 35th Episcopal District, Leo M. Simpson, said the theme was carefully selected to awaken the spiritual consciousness of pastors, church leaders, and ministry workers across Liberia.

He explained that the convention will place strong emphasis on the receiving of the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues, reflecting the experience of believers on the Day of Pentecost.

Bishop Simpson disclosed that eleven local branch churches are expected to participate in the weeklong gathering, alongside a delegation of 35 international participants from the United States. The delegation will be led by Julian Johnson and his wife.

According to the bishop, the visiting delegates will be divided into three groups to engage in outreach and fellowship activities across the country. One group will visit the Miracle Praise and Worship Center in the J.J.Y Community, Gardnerville, Monrovia; another will travel to Grand Bassa County for sightseeing and fellowship, while the third group will visit the Haywood Mission Institute to interact with teachers.

He added that the delegation will also conduct activities at the Samuel Grimes Rehabilitation Center in Margibi County as part of the convention’s outreach efforts.

In addition, Bishop Simpson said members of the delegation are expected to attend a divine worship service at one of the PAW churches in Banjue, further strengthening ties within the church community.

The PAW leader noted that throughout their stay, the international guests will participate in a range of ministry activities, including teaching, training, evangelism, and community outreach.

A major highlight of the convention will be an open-air block street party for community residents, scheduled to take place at the headquarters church on Front Street in central Monrovia — an event organizers say is intended to foster fellowship and community engagement.

The annual convention is one of the most significant gatherings of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World in Liberia, serving as a platform for spiritual renewal, leadership development, and strengthening the church’s mission across the country.
