MONROVIA, September 30, 2026 — Liberia’s International Ship Registry has maintained its global lead among global shipping registries, President Joseph Boakai has been briefed.

Maritime officials reported that the registry continues to rank as the world’s largest.

Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel Sanoe disclosed Tuesday that the President received the briefing during a visit to the Virginia offices of the Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry (LISCR) in the United States.

According to Sanoe, senior officials gave Boakai an overview of the registry’s performance, operations, continued growth, and strategic plans to strengthen Liberia’s position in the global maritime industry.

He said officials informed the President that Liberia’s ship registry remains the world’s largest, ahead of major competing registries, including Panama and the Bahamas.

Sanoe said maritime officials attributed the registry’s continued growth to Liberia’s focus on international maritime standards, operational efficiency and regulatory compliance, which they said continue to attract vessels from around the world.

LISCR administers Liberia’s international ship registry and serves as a key link between the country and the global shipping industry.

Its operations include vessel registration, administration of maritime certificates, vessel safety and regulatory compliance, seafarer certification and related maritime services.

The registry’s work also involves maritime inspections, audits and surveys, as well as implementation of applicable international maritime conventions and requirements.

According to Sanoe, the President’s visit provided him with a broader understanding of the registry’s operations and its role in Liberia’s participation in the international maritime industry.

The briefing also focused on the registry’s continued expansion and efforts to strengthen Liberia’s position in the global maritime sector.
